Since I write a blog called "Seek the Unique," it's easy to see that I like to shop. I love to shop for holiday gifts that are special and personal. Spending more money doesn't mean the gift is better and it's a personal mission of mine to buy gifts for loved ones and friends that can't be found on any "big box retailer" shelf.

I tried once to keep a gratitude journal, but similar to keeping a diary when I was a teenager, no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't stay faithful to writing in it daily. I love the idea of a gratitude journal -- taking the time each and every day to count your blessings. It's this time of year when people really seem to focus on being grateful for all that you have in your life. I've read… Read More

My oldest will turn 4 on December 10th. He was due December 3rd and the entire time I was pregnant, I was obsessed with going early. Not your normal run of the mill every-pregnant-woman-wants-to-go-early, but obsessed with what his birth date would be and wanting to go early so I could ensure he wouldn't get the short end of the stick by having a birthday too close to Christmas.
My birthday is in mid-July, and other than having… Read More

Dear Santa,
Mommy's gonna lay it on the table this Christmas. I don't want a set of golf clubs so I can pick up golfing with you. I do not want a gift certificate to the local brewery where you love the beer and I can't stand the food. Shockingly, a weed wacker is not a romantic Christmas gift for a wife.
So this year Santa, I'm providing you with a list so you and… Read More

I woke up on Black Friday with an itch to redecorate our bedroom. This is not unusual, as I have to stratch this kind of an itch quite often.
"I wanna go shopping today," I told the Golfer.
"You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding," he dramatically replied.
"No, I'm not. I want new stuff for our bedroom."
Now, I knew that this would get him. He hasn't liked our bedroom either for quite some time. For a long time I… Read More

Each year I make three different treats that have become so well-loved that I don't dare miss making them. The first two are really candy, although one of them may well be considered a bar cookie or near brownie. The third is a cookie; a cut out type. I don't make the same recipe each year, but we must have cut-out cookies for Christmas. This year it's a very simple butter cookie decorated with Royal Icing. Cookie Dough Bites
