Watching the Kids Play
0 |
My grand-nephew celebrated his First Holy Communion last Sunday in wonderful style. He looked so handsome in his little suit!
After Mass, we went to the family barbeque in his honor, where I got to mix and mingle with all the little kids in the family: four little boys and four little girls, spread out among three families.
It was such fun! I love watching them grow up. I especially love that I'm not responsible for them! Well, I'll take that back; at our extended family gatherings, everyone looks out for the kids. We're the proverbial village raising these children.
Anyway, I loved watching one four-year old charmingly pawn her carrot cake off on Joe. First, she announced, "I don't like this cake." Then she cocked her head, smiled brightly and said, "Wouldn't you like to have it?"
How could Joe refuse?
Her four-year old cousin (these little girls were born two days apart!) captured an ant in a cup and proceeded to name it (Buzz) and lovingly put leaves and a stick in the cup so Buzz would feel at home.
The boys - ages 3 through 7 - pulled their shirttails out and played in the dirt. The three-year old tried to break into the playhouse by climbing in through the window, but he was foiled by his three-year old girl cousin and her playmate. You go, girl!
And my nephew - the First Communicant, newly blessed - played with our gift - a whoopee cushion. His parents love us!
