Try An Old Movie For New Entertainment

What's the last movie you saw? Was it a current blockbuster or a small indie flick? All well and good, but I want to encourage you to check out older movies. When you start watching some of the films that defined moviemaking, you may be amazed at how much you enjoy them.
Here are 10 of my all-time favorites. I also recommend Turner Classic Movies, especially their Essentials series.
If you're a comedy buff, try:
- "A Night At The Opera" is my favorite Marx Brothers movie.
- "Arsenic and Old Lace" starring Cary Grant has the world's best double take.
- "The Producers" – the original, that is! – starring Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder.
- "Take the Money and Run," an early and very funny Woody Allen flick.
- "Dr. Strangelove", a cold war tale featuring Peter Sellers and George C. Scott.
Is drama more your style? Here are some gripping films with fine acting:
- "White Heat" stars James Cagney, a gangster who finally pays for his misdeeds in one the most explosive final scenes in film.
- "The Maltese Falcon" is a classic tale of greed and murder.
"Casablana" is my favorite movie of all time. Love and loss, set in steamy Casablanca during World War II. - "The African Queen" features a pair of unlikely lovers on a mission to blow up a Nazi ship.
- "Dr. Zhivago" is a sweeping love story set in revolutionary Russia.
These are just a few of my favorites. What are your favorite old movies?
