The Beautiful Big Top

We all know about the big spectacular circuses such as Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus and Cirque du Soleil. These shows are huge productions that surprise and delight their audiences with their great acts, imaginative staging and wonderful music. Unfortunately, they mostly play the big cities and mostly charge high prices.

But there are smaller shows that also feature fabulous acrobats and aerialists, clowns and animals, music and fun. I prefer these circuses. They're more intimate and personal. These shows come to the smaller towns across the country. They set up at the fairgrounds or the local park for a night or two, then they pack everything up and head for the next place, following the paper arrows posted along the road.

Here are just a few shows that are planning tours for 2007. They are all one-ring shows, under the big top, just the way a circus should be. Visit their web sites for more information about dates and tickets.

· Kelly-Miller Circus (www.kmcircus.com)
· Circus Flora (www.circusflora.org)
· Circus Smirkus (www.circussmirkus.org)
· Circus Vargas (www.circusvargas.org)
· The Universoul Circus (www.universoulcircus.com)
· Big Apple Circus (www.bigapplecircus.com)

It's affordable, live entertainment under the Big Top for children of all ages. May all your days be circus days!
