Ride the Wild Zipper

The Zipper is only for the strong of stomach!
The best thing about Ocean City, Maryland is the old-fashioned
boardwalk at the south end of town. The boardwalk stretches for over 30
blocks, long enough that a little train rolls up and down to
accommodate who can't - or don't want to - walk.
The boardwalk features every kind of delicious junk food: candy apples,
floss, fries, caramel corn, ninety-leven kinds of ice cream, saltwater
taffy. You name it; they've got it, from funnel cakes to fudge.
At the end of the boardwalk, are the rides and games. Pinball exists
alongside the video games. Skee ball is my favorite; I live for sinking
the ball in the 50-point hole! The talkers lure you into slinging
baseballs at milk bottles or squirting waterguns into clowns' mouths or
tossing darts at balloons.
One pavilion houses kiddie rides, including an antique carousel. When I
was a kid, I had a terrible time deciding which animal to ride. I
usually chose the big tiger cat instead of a mundane horse, but
sometimes I rode the pig or the rooster.
There are rides for the those with cast iron stomachs, too. The Zipper
flings you every which way; the Tidal Wave coaster flips you upside
down and backwards. Over on the pier, ride the Slingshot, if you dare.
Thank goodness for the much calmer ferris wheels! The big wheel on the
pier has the best view of the entire city, especially at night when the
lights turn this coastal town into a micro version of Las Vegas.
Except this town has an ocean.
