Precious Objects
1 |
I have a small collection of things that are near and dear to me, things that no amount of organizational zeal could ever make me discard.
They are my precious objects. They keep my loved ones close to me; they keep the special times in my life fresh.
For example, I carry the holy card from my father's funeral in 1991 in my wallet. It's a tiny piece of paper, but I smile whenever I look at it. Deep in my "memory drawer" (What? You don't have a memory drawer?) is the hand-painted shirt from my first circus, the tiny t-shirt that my son wore home from the hospital after he was born and his journal from the fourth grade. Whenever I work on my computer, I get to look at my storyteller figurine - it was a gift from a friend to commemorate our work together in our professional association. I keep a pair of earrings in my jewelry box, lovely earrings with loose posts, because Joe gave them to me one very special Christmas.
These little, inexpensive things are just a few of my precious, priceless objects. All together, they would probably fit in a shoebox, but they mean the world to me.
I can clean. I can downsize and declutter. I can toss out the junk and the old clothes and the piles of stuff, but these things - these precious objects - will always be with me.
How about you? What are your precious objects?
