Elsewhere on Family.com, Joe LoCicero has a great article on 10 staple foods for your pantry. If you haven't read it yet, go do that now. Then come back here. Go on, shoo!

I have one more staple to add to the list:

Bisquick.

I love Bisquick.

Bisquick is the premade baking mix that enables cooking-skill-impaired people like me to whip up tasty treats quickly and easily.

I adore their recipe for drop biscuits: Bisquick and milk. That's it! Even I can mix Bisquick and milk. I've gone wild with this, adding cinnamon or grated cheese, maybe a little almond extract. The only thing that ruins a Bisquick biscuit is burning it.

The only decent shortcake recipe I've ever found is right on the back of the Bisquick box. It's just sweet enough and the right biscuit-as-opposed-to-pound-cake consistency. Add strawberries and whipped cream and you ascend straight into strawberry heaven.

I don't think we'd ever have pancakes or waffles if we didn't have Bisquick. It really makes the perfect pancake and a wonderful waffle. If we're feeling really crazy, we add blueberries or bananas.

Once you exhaust the recipes on the box, check out these amazing ideas, courtesy of Mimi at French Kitchen in America, who declared March 15 to be Bisquick Day.

Bisquick comes in a reduced fat version too, for you healthy types out there. I use it, along with skim milk and Splenda, to produce lower-fat versions of my favorites.

Vive la Bisquick!
