Hurray for Daylight Savings Time! I don't care what anybody says; I love it.

I've never been officially diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder, but I must say that I'm noticeably happier when the days are longer. My mood is better and I have more energy. In winter, on the other hand, I'm sluggish and unmotivated. The only thing that keeps me from curling up in bed and hibernating is Christmas -- I'm convinced it's because of all the lights keeping the darkness at bay.

Now, I know that the simple shift of an hour really doesn't make the daylight last an hour longer. I don't care. As soon as the days start to lengthen, I perk right up. I love the fact that I drive home from work in the light. I love the fact that I can take a walk after work without worrying about being alone after dark. I love the long, lazy evenings brightened by the golden sideways glow of the sun.

I welcomed the earlier start of DST this year with a little happy dance. I fixed the clocks with a smile on my face. I admit, though, that I forgot to change the clock on my desk. I looked at it this morning and thought, "Gee, it seems like it should be later than 10:30." And then I realized that wow! It was later than 10:30 -- an hour later! Time for lunch!
