Just Don't Call Me Ma'am

Everyone has milestones in their lives.
Count 'em up: first smile, first tooth, first step, first day of school, high school and college graduations, first job, firstĀ (and hopefully only!) marriage, first baby.
Last night I crossed off another significant milestone in my own journey on this earth.
I got my very first Senior Citizen's discount.
Joe and I went to dinner and a movie last night. While he got us a table at the restaurant, I went to buy the tickets from the automagic ticket machine. I plonked around the touch screen, selecting the day, the movie and the time. Then I got to the Number of Tickets screen.
I plonked the plus sign next to "Adult Ticket" twice to indicate two tickets - then I noticed the "Senior Citizen" selection for "Ages 55 and up."
I am 55. I qualified for the discount. And yet, I hesitated.
Did I really want to cross that almighty divide and self-identify as a Senior Citizen? Did I want to align myself with a whole set of people who are older than I am? Did I want to bid my youth - all right, my middle age - adieu and enter the land of the elderly?
More to the point, did I want to save two bucks?
Yes. Yes, I did.
A few more plonks and I had one adult ticket and one Senior Citizen's ticket.
I was a little disappointed that I didn't have to show my I.D.
