Joe and I are really enjoying the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We may be a bit different from most fans, though.
See, our home team, the Washington Capitals, did not make the playoffs this year, so we have to root for other teams. We generally pick "our" teams at the start of the first round, and stick with those teams if they advance. If a favored team gets knocked out, then we choose a new one.
But when our favorites end up on opposite sides of the ice, we have to decide which team will be favored with our temporary fandom.
Usually we agree.
Until now.
We're both rooting for the Detroit Red Wings over the Anaheim Ducks in the Western Conference. However, in the Eastern conference, I'm rooting for the Ottawa Senators; Joe is rooting for the Buffalo Sabres. Since the Sens were ahead 3 games to none in the 7-game series, I've been gloating. A little.
Then the Sabres won Game 4, so I had to take some payback. I have endured this ribbing with grace and good sportsmanship, if I do say so myself, because I know the Sens will storm back tomorrow and clinch their place in the final.
If the Red Wings also advance, I will be in a real pickle. I'll have to find a good way to choose my team, like who has the best playoff beards, or who has cooler jerseys, or who has the cuter coach.
Very scientific, don't you think?
