Getting My Walk On
0 |
The office walking program officially started last Sunday. Unfortunately, I spent the day painting our bedroom. Great way to start, eh?
Monday was no better. A coworker who normally telecommutes, was in the office, so of course we went to lunch. I suppose the two blocks to and from the restaurant counts, but it ain't much. At least I went to my yoga class that night, but there's not a lot of walking going on there.
Ah, but yesterday I got my legs under me. I met a friend for lunch near my old office building, a mile away from my current office building. The day was warm and sunny, perfect for a walk. The crabapple, redbud and cherry trees are all popping out, along with the daffodils and crocuses, so there was plenty to look at on the way.
Because lunch with a friend was at the end of the mile, the uphill walk was just a little more bearable.
I walked back too, thereby racking up another mile.
But wait; there's more!
I was meeting Joe after work at the arena downtown. The subway stop is right outside my office. Before I hopped on, though, I had to stop at the bank, which is a half-block away. Once I did my banking, I thought, "Well, why not keep walking to the next stop?"
So I walked another mile, past forsythia and snowdrops and greening trees, enjoying every minute.
Today? I think another long walk is in order.
