Freezer Burn

Over at my personal blog, Red Nose, I sometimes participate in a weekly writing exercise called Friday's Feast. This week one of the questions was:

"Name three things in your freezer."

This is harder than it sounds, because I have a rather huge blind spot when it comes to the contents of my freezer. I mean, I put food in it sometimes, but I promptly forget about it. Most of the time, whatever goes into the freezer is in there for the long haul.

For all I know, a thriving alien culture could have evolved from some of the stuff stacked behind the grease can and the half-dozen blue ice freezer-pack thingies.

But... let's see if I can name three things anyway.

AH! I know! There's a frozen pizza! Frozen pizza is a staple in our house, like milk and bread. Next on the list: an almost-empty carton of low-fat ice cream. Yum! The fact that it's lower in fat means I can eat twice as much, no? Those two items actually get eaten.

Oh gee, look -- four packages of frozen macaroni and cheese. I'm scared to look at the expiration date, because it's probably sometime in 2005.

What's really scary is that a lot of other, even older stuff -- that used to be edible -- is lurking in there.

Ugh. I guess I'd better clean out the freezer this weekend.

Please -- tell me I'm not the only one!
