It's Really Much More Spacious

Joe and I have been immersed in Home Improvement Projects for the last two years so that we can sell our place.

We started this when the market was hot and you could ask people to buy you expensive gifts in addition to paying inordinate amounts of money for your rundown fixer-upper.

Now, however, buyers expect everything in the house - like toilets and kitchen appliances - to actually work properly and look nice. They even expect that you, the seller, will offer some kind of allowance to enable them to replace the 25-year old carpet.

Really!

Anyhow, we've been fixing and painting and beautifying the house. This weekend we rearranged the two tiny bedrooms so that they gave off a whiff of space, order and usefulness. I even took a day off to accomplish this task.

Before I dove into the project, though, I planned it out. It's amazing what a little forethought can accomplish! Even though the planning and preparation for the Big Redecoration of 2007 took longer than the actual furniture moving, it was worth it.

Because I planned it all out, even to the point of rehearsing it in my mind, the project went extraordinarily smoothly. In fact, the basic move was done in two hours - I had allotted the entire day! So now, instead of one overcrowded bedroom and one junk room, we have a functional guest bedroom and a beautiful reading and craft room.

There's really something to be said for planning ahead!
