With the instructor, a couple of us hamming it up after class

So of course with the New Year came my resolution to get back to the gym more regularly.  I had kind of fallen out of going all that often in the fall and I was feeling it.  So New Years Day, I was online looking at a schedule of classes for the next day at my gym and this class was listed:  Zumba.  I had no idea what it was but the name itself intrigued me so I clicked through to read about it.

Zumba is a new form of exercise and it's very popular right now.  It's pretty much dance aerobics to mostly Latin music (some other International music is fused in).  But this isn't your everyday run-of-the-mill dance aerobics.  There's tons of personality and flare to these classes.

You dance to traditional latin music like the salsa, the merengue and flamenco.  And what's neat is that it works for all levels of fitness and all levels of coordination.  In other words, my uncoordinated self can still take this class.  You don't have to be a dance guru - or you can be that too and show off your skills - but this class is something for everyone.

The hour long class flies by for me, I'm having so much fun.  I've been taking it with a bunch of friends and we seriously laugh the entire way through.  Everyone is just smiling and having a great time in these classes.    It doesn't feel like working out, it feels like fun, and that's what I strive to find when I attend classes at my gym.

There's enough variety with each song too that you're never bored.  And, there are plenty of abdominal aspects to this workout, which I typically hate but don't even notice in the midst of the hour long class.

Click on find classes to see if they have one near you.  And if they don't, check out their products online - they have a 4-disc DVD program, so you can always do it at home if you can't find a class!
