Falling Down and Laughing My Face Off
0 |
Don't cry after you fall - make snow angels, instead!
I've got a terrible habit of finding amusement in most any situation, or reacting rather suddenly and at very inappropriate moments - not to mention, when I'm nervous or frightened - especially, if you stumble, slip or fall down in front of me, I will laugh!
[raising eyebrows]
Like, the guy who lifts one leg and throws the other, or that woman who knocks into a mountain of canned corn at the grocery store and attempts to prevent the inevitable.
[snicker]
Let's not forget about the people who spend their time searching for just what in the world it was that made them lose their balance, in the first place, and find it frusrating when they have nothing, or no one to blame for their misfortunes.
These people crack me up!
No, I don't consider myself unkind - a little emotional and very disorganized, perhaps - and I would never, ever mean anyone harm in explaining that my laughter is perhaps psychosomatic, based on pure reason, in believing that I am, by far, the clumsiest person, I know!
I slip, lose my grip and trip over...everything - so, what's up with all the insensitivity?
[shrugs shoulders]
I know how to fall.
"Watch what mommy can do!"
I reached for the monkey bar in front of me, missed and landed right on my face.
"Oh my gosh, you guys, I think Mommy broke-did her face!"
Here's the funny part - yep, it gets funnier - I just laid there, rather than getting up and spitting out the mouthful of wood chips, face-down in the middle of the playground and breathing in dirt.
"Are you dead, Mommy?"
I sat up, grabbed my head and started to laugh as my 5-year-old yelled back to her sisters and brother, a second time.
"It's okay, guys...her face is good...but, I think she broke-did her brain, because she won't stop laughing!"
Nope, I may not be the most graceful mother in the world - trust me, I've got the bruises to prove it - and the least that I can expect is that my children will grow to know when to fall and, more importantly, how to get up!
[awkward silence]
Okay, you can go ahead and laugh now!
