The Growing Scarf

I'm no stranger to having plenty of unfinished projects on my needles at any given time.  Over the next couple of weeks, I plan on introducing you to some of said Works in Progress.  I think it's a good idea to keep various types of projects handy for all types of situations.  Situational knitting - a telltale sign of a compulsive knitter.

For example, you have your aran wool sweaters for mind-bending, concentrated knitting, your stockinette pullover for those auto-pilot times while watching movies with the family, your baby sweater for folks in need of instant gratification, your odd sock project to quell sock obsession (this doesn't apply to me, but I firmly believe that I am an anomaly in the world of sock knitting), and your textured scarf (see mine, pictured here) for those in need of some mindful (but not too much so) de-stressing.  Of course I'm generalizing here, but I don't think this is all too unfamiliar to heavy knitters.  Am I wrong?

This is a wonderful (free) pattern affectionately dubbed "Shifting Sands," that I'm thoroughly enjoying.  Not only do I love the textured stitch, but the yarn is treating me very nicely.  It's Malabrigo Pure Worsted Merino kettle-dyed in Uruguay.  One of the softest merinos around, it has a bit of a cult following in the knitting world.  Be sure to check out this great free pattern here if you're in need of a new scarf project.

About Me

I am a 24-year-old artist/photographer/knitter living and working in New York. I learned to knit as a child from my mother but only got serious(ly obsessive) about it four or five years ago. You can read more about my work at Brooklyn Tweed.
