Because they were all sheep once

I've been thinking a lot about how I could better use this space to cater to *parents* who knit. Now, I'm not a parent and I don't claim to understand all that goes in to parenting. I do know that those of you folks who are parenting (my hat is off to you, btw) have serious time constraints, especially in regard to your personal hobbies (be it knitting, gardening, fishing, anything). I know many knitters who are parents and they… Read More

Not So Much About the Timing

Posted May 07, 2007
Well, I started a sweater - clearly the seasonal changes are least important on my list of priorities. At least for knitwear.

I'm adapting a Rowan pattern ( 'Scott' from RYC Classic Winter), generally following the pattern as written. The sweater is knit with bulky wool (actually a super soft wool/silk/acrylic blend - hard to resist), but not only that - it's stranded... in other words, doubly thick. Oy.

Stranded knitting requires two colors to be… Read More

Infirmary

I've been battling what feels like a never-ending sickness. I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel (thanks to some precious antibiotics gifted to me by Doctor Cho on Friday) but it has been a rough week.

Striped Noro Scarf

I used 4 balls of Noro Silk Garden in colorways 201, 234 and 86. I had two skeins of Shade 201 and one of each of the others. I manually striped 201 and 234 for the first half of the scarf and then 201… Read More

As podcasting becomes a more accessible and common form of independent media, there seems to be a steady increase in the knitting podcast genre. I'm not a wild connoisseur of podcasts, but I do occasionally get the chance to sit down and listen while I'm knitting - subject matter may vary, but often it is knitting related (surprised?)

There are a handful of quality knitting podcasts, but I got the chance this week… Read More

Top-Down Method For Moms and Dads

Posted April 27, 2007
I wanted to write a few more words about this construction method aimed towards knitting parents (this is my last pro-top-down rant, I swear) (for now.)

Sure, top-down almost always insures a good fit and for you and me, that's great (see previous post) - we stopped growing years ago. But what about your children who seem to steal an inch in height here and there with no rhyme or reason?

Well it's true that kids grow… Read More

About Me

I am a 24-year-old artist/photographer/knitter living and working in New York. I learned to knit as a child from my mother but only got serious(ly obsessive) about it four or five years ago. You can read more about my work at Brooklyn Tweed.
