In our home, daddy's favorite meal is breakfast, and because of that we have "breakfast for dinner" often. One thing dad likes is breakfast sandwiches made with waffles or pancakes, egg, cheese and sausage. We also enjoy a good strata, and on one recent "breakfast sandwich night" I got the idea to turn this handheld favorite into a one-dish-wonder. It turned out so well that I can see it being requested for many meals. Although it's delicious as-is, the maple syrup poured over the top takes it to the next delicious level. This is what we'll be having to start our Father's Day celebration.

Waffle Strata

Hands-On Time: 10 minutes
Ready In: 5 hours
Servings: 4

Ingredients:

     8 frozen toaster waffles, thawed
4 sausage patties, cooked - about 1.5 ounces each
     2 whole large eggs
     1 cup milk
     maple syrup

Directions:

1. Grease a 9x9 baking pan.
2. Cut waffles and sausage into 1 inch dice. Toss together and put into baking pan.
3. Mix eggs and milk well and pour over waffles and sausage.
4. Cover well with foil and refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours or up to overnight.
5. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F.
6. Bake strata for 30 minutes with foil on.
7. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
8. Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting into squares.
9. Serve with maple syrup.

Notes:
This doubles very easily.
Any type of milk can be used, and egg substitute is fine.
