Five Wishes for a Happy New Year
2 |
Look how happy walking makes this little guy!
Beyond the very obvious wanting my family to remain healthy this coming year (especially this coming year), and although we don’t do resolutions here, there are five small "wishes" I have for the coming year.
1. Give more hugs. In all the rat race of life it’s very easy to simply blow a kiss or give a one-armed hug to friends and loved ones. With touch being such a vital part of a person’s well-being in more ways than one, I think stopping for a real full-on hug , at least once a day, would make us all happier.
2. Read together as a family more often. Several years ago we used to crowd together in the evenings and I would read a chapter or two from the "Little House" series. The kids loved the stories and the conversations we would have afterward. Dad and I loved that they would calm down before bedtime and sleep better with nicer thoughts tucked in their little heads before they slipped off to dreamland.
3. Be more physically active. We’re not exactly couch potatoes here, but a rousing game of tag or a walk through the nearby college campus would benefit us all.
4. Be more environmentally aware. It’s no secret that we as a human race are not taking the best care of our planet. My husband and I would like to see our family be more proactive in recycling, reusing and conserving our resources. We do pretty well as-is, but there’s always room for improvement, isn’t there?
5. Get to the shore. After all my other noble wishes, this seems frivolous. Well, we haven’t had a family vacation for two and a half years and the last time we were at the shore, our favorite place to vacation, was over six years ago. We don’t want a lengthy week-long stay, just a weekend or even one overnight would be lots of fun.
