I love all this enthusiasm over a grocery store! One of my favorites here in California (with locations across the U.S.) is the small grocer Trader Joe's. I'd never heard of Aldi before this post, actually, but apparently its co-founder created a trust that owns Trader Joe's. Who knew?

I can't believe you're blogging about Aldi! I have posted many a blog about Aldi on my other blog. I, too, am a HUGE Aldi fan. On my first visit there, I didn't know that they didn't take checks. I was at the checkout when I discovered this, and I feared the worst - that I would have to start putting groceries back. I had exactly $21.36 with me. The total came to $21.13. I walked out of there with a whole lot of groceries for my twenty bucks, believe me. We love: their Cranberry Almond cereal, their syrup, the half and half (both regular and fat free vanilla), Luigi's Italian Ice, the marinated pork tenderloin, the sirloin steaks from the freezer section (being Midwesterners, we're pretty picky on that one...) and so many other items that I can't begin to list them here!

Kbabe buys almost all our staples at Aldi. We love it. We live around the corner, so it's incredibly convenient. And the amount she brings home on my draconian budget is awesome.

That's so funny...the first time I went to Aldi's I bought very little also. I too was afraid that quality would be sacrificed for those low prices. I stuck to products that I felt were "safe", but I wound up LOVING everything I bought.

If my Aldi's was a bit closer (I have to drive a half hour to get there), I'd shop there exclusively. The last time I went there I spent 1.69lb for 85% lean ground beef...the same meat was advertised for 2.99 lb in a local supermarket! I love that I can buy a cartload of groceries for less than $100, and that is rare these days (especially on the East Coast!)

I haven't tried their produce yet, that'll be with the next trip. My favorite buys are their kids snacks (fruit cups & chocolate puddings), canned veggies & fruit, and freezer items such as no sugar added fruit pops & something akin to lean pockets (for a FRACTION of the price!)

I heard about Aldi from Unwrapped and thought what you did 17 yrs ago. I had no idea it had been around that long. I was sold on shopping there, just from reading your article! I went to their site from your blog and found out they don't have stores in Texas. Too bad.
I will however, take that quesadilla recipe as a consolation prize.

Those sound easy and yummy! I will have to add this one to my recipe book!

We dont have an Aldi, but I sure wish they did. The grocery prices are ridiculious here. Maybe they will expand? :)
