"Spring Fling" Project

There are artists and there are people who can't draw a stick figure.  There are CRAFT mavens who can whip up a new window treatment or re-paint a room in a few hours...and then there is ME.
My secret shame is that I am a lousy "DIY" crafter...but I have visions of greatness.  I have ideas galore and I subscribe to nearly every "home" magazine on the planet----but I can't finish a craft or home decor project without some kind of injury or major ordeal.

Most of the time I am perfectly fine with my lame crafting ability.  But in the SPRING, when the weather gets nice and sun shines... my denial skills kick in and I start channeling Martha Stewart.  It's way too late when I remember that I have "craft issues".   Usually I remember my "issues" after I've burned my hand and need to seek medical treatment OR I have to pay someone else to finish up or repair what I started.  Denial ain't just a river in Egypt, I'm the queen of denial when it comes to my arts and crafts skills.  About once every spring, usually at the beginning of the season, I get the urge for a "Spring Fling".  After spending the winter looking at all the yummy magazines, I decide to do a mosiac fireplace mantel!  OR I decide to antique the dining room table!  The picture you see  in this post is a project from 3 years ago.  I started to do a mosiac around one of our mantels...then I had to pay someone to fix it and finish it up.  When I decide to do a project, I REALLY do a project, something BIG and EXPENSIVE to fix!

This Spring is worse than usual because it's been a tough winter AND because my sister-in-law and brother are remodeling.  My sister-in-law is one of those women that can paint a room in 15 minutes (no joke) without spilling a drop of paint.  Jill is a whiz at the decor and arty things and if I didn't worship the ground she walked on, I'd despise her.  She is making all kinds of wonderful updates to her home and doing some of the work herself.  Since it's been a year or so since I had to go to the emergency room (I'm not kidding), my denial kicks in.  I start to think that "I could do that" and another "spring fling" begins.  But I'm making progress and this year my "fling" wasn't as major!  Sunday night I burned the fingertips of my left ring finger so badly that I spent the whole night with my finger on ice.  GLUE GUN accident.  No trip to the emergency room and my older daughter was able to help me out so I didn't have to pay anybody to bail me out of my mess.  Does anyone else get the urge to channel Martha Stewart?  I hope I'm not the only one!
