Waiting for Movie to Start

The presents have been opened.  The holiday treats are still around and everyone in your family is sleeping too little and eating too much.  The routine is so far gone it's a joke.  It's the post holiday but not quite "reality" time of year.  You may be working or you may have time off.  But no matter what, this is a time period that all of us are a few pounds heavier and hearts are a little lighter.

It's a perfect time of year to indulge in some excellent "guilty pleasures".  Here's a list of good reading and viewing for the post holiday slug fest.   Don't do something productive with your extra time!  Veg out and relax, have a laugh.

Guilty Pleasures to Read Online

Go Fug Yourself
Heather and Jessica, the "Fug" girls, are the funniest women on the planet.  It is a scientific fact that the Fugs will make you laugh until you cry almost instantly.  Heather and Jessica have a book coming out in early 2008 and I will be first in line to get it.  I am already stalking the authors to see if I can get an interview with them when the book comes out for Family.com.  I read "Go Fug Yourself" daily but since I am in the post holiday twilight zone I've been spending a little more time online, reading archives of the Go Fug Youself blog.   Go to a room by youself.  Surf over to www.gofugyouself.com.  Laugh until you cry.

Television without Pity
One of my shallow secrets is that I own all four seasons of "The O.C." on DVD.  Another shallow secret of mine is that I read Television without Pity almost daily.  Especially as I try to keep up with my favorite Reality TV shows like Project Runway, I read Television without Pity, so that I can keep up with any of the episodes I've missed.  I love this blog, it's worth a visit to see if they have write ups on any of your favorite shows.

Guilty Pleasures to Read in Print

I Hate Other People's Kids by Adrianne Frost
The introduction to the book says "Sure, children are the greatest gift of all---but that doesn't mean you want to be seated next to one on a plane".   I know I'm a parent but this book is so awesome, laugh out loud type of funny that it's a great read.  You won't be sorry.

Sippy Cups are not for Chardonnay
I just got this book for two of my new mom friends and I read it again.  Sippy Cups are Not for Chardonnay by Stefanie Wilder-Taylor is a complete scream.  Everything she writes in this book is so true and so funny.  Even if you are not a "newbie" mom, you will laugh until you cry after reading this real book on motherhood.

Guilty Pleasures at the Movies

Double Features
On Wednesday, I went with my whole family and my brother's whole family to a DOUBLE FEATURE at the theatre.  It was a blast and a total guilty pleasure.  Our two families saw "Enchanted" , followed by the new "National Treasure" sequel.  First of all, I totally embarassed by kids by my observation of how "hot" Patrick Duffy is, in the "Enchanted" movie.  Second of all, "National Treasure" is a perfect popcorn flick and kept all ages glued to the screen.

My brother and I used to do "Double Feature" movies when we were kids but we haven't done it for years.  I highly recommend that you put this guilty pleaure on your list for this post holiday season.
