An Eco-Princess Mani-Pedi?

When I was a little girl, I was not allowed to wear nail polish. I think it was considered rebellious in a naughty, bad-kindergartener way. But I find it totally cute that our Little Princess loves getting her nails painted... except eco-conscious sites report that some nail polishes contain not-so-princess-friendly ingredients, such as formaldehyde. Yech.

After further research, I went to All Shades of Green for two bottles of (of course) PINK, better-for-you polish by No Miss Nail Care. Our toe-polish would be a fabulous Pucci-pink called Pompano Beach Peach (it's not peach though -- see picture). Our mani polish, Bikini Pink, is sweet and very sheer. I also got No Miss gentle polish remover which smells like vanilla, a pleasant change from the usual remover smell which is closer to "gasoline-on-fire."

As a treat I thought we'd go to the nail salon, and we had a lovely time walking over there, talking about her latest favorite shade of pink ("sparkly pink!"). I forgot about the part where you enter the salon and there are 4,000 deliciously pink polishes laid out at Little Princess height.

When I explained to LP that instead of choosing from the vast array of fantastic nail-candy options so elegantly back-lit on the walls like tiny works of art, she could pick either light or dark pink out of my purse, well, it was a little anti-climactic.

But I have to say she was a good sport about it. Then she spotted it, from clear across the salon: A glittery top coat with floating pink sparkles and shiny floating pink hearts.

Sure I could have said no to the pink sparkly hearts topcoat. But I didn't -- it would be like bringing her to a candy store and saying, "Great news, I have some broccoli in my pocket!"

So this time, our Little Princess ended up with adorably pink eco-non-toxic nails... topped with a who-knows-what's-in it sparkly, glitter-hearts topcoat.

But for future mani-pedis, I plan to paint her nails myself and use only the gentle stuff.

Do you let your Little Princess paint her nails and if so, what kind of polish do you recommend?
