The Royal Ball Gown

At first it was easy to satisfy our Little Princess' desire for pink-only clothing: The clothes had to be mostly pink, and then she would wear them. Done. Then, more rules came: Her clothes couldn't be scratchy. Or stiff. Or have any other color on them...

Polka dots were okay, but stripes were not. And pants? Don't even bring them in the house. "Give these away to other children," LP declared, pointing at a heap of mostly pink, non-scratchy pants I'd traveled many malls to gather, which had taken her but a few moments to pile in the corner of her room, near the door. "I only wear dresses."

Next came the obvious evolution: "Can I have a princess dress, like the kind you wear to the ball? A pink one, with long sleeves, and sparkles."

I found a little sparkly number at Target (see photo), and rigged a long sleeve stretchy t-shirt under it… Read More

Little Princess: All Made Up

Our 5-year-old wears makeup. That may or may not sound shocking, but it's the truth.

Not every day, of course. It's not like she wakes up in the morning and "puts her face on" before camp. That would be shocking.

The makeup fad started a few months ago. I was in the bathroom putting on lipgloss and I noticed LP was staring, rapt.

The Myth of Perfect Princess Hair

The only princess movie scenes that make me a little jealous are the ones when the princess looks at herself approvingly in the mirror while dancing a hairbrush ever-so-smoothly and effortlessly through her cascading tresses. As if to rub it in, the princess often sings merrily while brushing away: "la la la la LAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!"

At our house, it's not really like that. When our Little Princess started her love of princesses, she had just-above-the-shoulder… Read More

An Eco-Princess Mani-Pedi?

When I was a little girl, I was not allowed to wear nail polish. I think it was considered rebellious in a naughty, bad-kindergartener way. But I find it totally cute that our Little Princess loves getting her nails painted... except eco-conscious sites report that some nail polishes contain not-so-princess-friendly ingredients, such as formaldehyde. Yech.

After further research, I went to All Shades of Green for two bottles of (of… Read More

All About the Princess Love

Hi fellow moms-of-princess-adoring children :) I'm so excited to be guest-blogging here at the center of the Princess universe. My name is Sabrina and my daughter is 5 and she loooooves Princesses. Actually our little girl's emotion for princesses is so strong that "loves" doesn't even really cover it.

At first her princess-obsession caught me by surprise. She had never actually seen any of the princess movies so I couldn't figure out where it… Read More

Birthdays. Last day of school. First day of summer.

There is so much to celebrate in the life of a princess, so it was only natural for Libby to request a party. But not just any party... she wanted a royal tea party.

Well, we nixed the tea (we'd lose too many friend if we caffeinated their daughters) but we did okay the party. We bought dollar store tea cups… Read More
