What Does She Do All Day?

Today I thought I'd give you a run-down on what the heck a full-time freelance writer and blogger does all day long. I love my work, but there are moments of fog-inducing bleariness as I try to sort out my hourly priorities.
There are the family travel topics, of course, both here and on my personal blog Family Travel, hosted on the Australia-based travel site BootsnAll. My recent entries include Learning Cantonese in Hong Kong and an update on the tourism situation in New Orleans.
For a cultural travel twist, I share blogging duties with Antonia in New York and Steve in London on the Perceptive Travel Blog, which is an interesting offshoot of the webzine Perceptive Travel, edited by Tim Leffel. We get to write about world music, books, food and interesting travel encounters without waiting for months to see our stuff appear in print -- what's not to like?
To keep up with bloggers around the world, I enjoy hosting the Home Turf Media Carnival of Cities, a blog carnival that always surprises. This past week we had posts that covered everything from Montana Easter Eggs to zombies in Brisbane, Australia.
Just to keep the wind blowing through my brain, I also blog about National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) drag racing on Fast Machines, and this weekend I'll be up near Fort Worth at the Texas Motor Speedway to cover the Samsung 500 for Motorsport.com. My thoughts on being a NASCAR newbie and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s rough day at the track are highlights.
I haven't been neglecting my mainstream media work, with a story on a local donut bakery coming up in Texas Highways magazine, downtown development issues in CHOW magazine and a fun upcoming North Carolina assignment for the new Automotive Traveler magazine.
I'm also psyched about attending a great blogging event in Chicago next month, hosted by my fave relationship blogger Liz Strauss and her compadres. If I could only talk the ever-awesome Wendy Perrin of Conde Nast Traveler's Perrin Post to attend....
Never let anyone tell you that blogging is a waste of time -- I have one magazine that wants to turn my recent Kid Trippin' post about satellite radio into a feature article. So, I just keep writing about what interests me, because you never know who is reading. :)
