Since we already know that spring break vacations have either already happened or passed us by, here are a few ideas for the next golden days of free time that are on the horizon....

Thinking about being a driver who shunpikes?  That's "shunning the turnpikes" and sticking to the backroads in your travel planning; check out my recent post Road Trip! on the Edmunds.com blog The Driving Woman (and hang around for awhile -- it's a cool blog with a woman's point of view on a variety of automotive topics.) 

If you're considering a theme park visit, get some theme park smarts right here on Family.com.  I found an entire series on what's new for 2007 at North American theme parks over at About.com.  Those heading to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida may want to read my entire series called "Survivor's Guide to WDW."  There's a special Disney Dining promotion going on right now as well. Not theme parks but getting pretty close, big resorts like Club Med and Great Wolf Lodge are reaching out to families with enticing amenities and deals.

Washington, DC is always an amazing place to take the kids, but do try to avoid August, since the humidity is beastly and everyone's gone on vacation/Congressional recess. The city is included in an extensive list of options and packages for Memorial Day 2007 travel with kids.  Or maybe you want to investigate our national parks.

Looking ahead to a trip to Europe and worried about lodging?  I just found a new blog by one of my favorite magazines, Budget Travel, and they have a timely post on Web sites that feature family-friendly European accomodations.  It's written by Brad Tuttle, BT Senior Editor and father of two.
