Some Gems for Southern Travel
0 |
I was doing some research for an article that I'm writing next month for Automotive Traveler (about road trip travel to western North Carolina in a Dodge Avenger, with a NASCAR slant) when I found some great links in that granddaddy magazine for topics below the Mason-Dixon Line, Southern Living. Just had to jump in and share them with you "real quick," as Southerners would say!
First, since I'm in this road trip mode (although the Avenger is not my usual minivan) the magazine has an interactive map featuring their favorite Southern byways. Don't miss the Natchez Trace or the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I simply have to have a soundtrack for my travels, and here are 17 music soundtracks for a road trip, all organized by state. How cool is that?
Finally, there is a marvelous musical section called Soul of the South, featuring new, up-and-coming musicians and talented folks who are lesser-known, also divided by state. I'm glad that they featured Robert Earl Keen from Texas -- you can't go to one of his concerts without hearing his song "The Road Goes on Forever" (and hearing the audience shout the rest of the lyric...."and the party never ends!")
