I found this helpful Thank You! Your vote will be tallied soon!

I'm always finding new blogs and interesting travel ideas online, but one way to discover active blogs on every subject imaginable is to visit a blog carnival.

A "blog carnival" is a gathering of selected individual posts from lots of different blogs, all on one topic, with all of the post links on a single "hosting" blog.  On active carnivals, new editions are usually published once a week or every other week.  Sometimes the host blog duties rotate around the blogosphere, and sometimes the host blog never changes.  The published links are great for finding real gems among the thousands of bloggers, increasing their visitors and exposure as readers pass the links on and link to their discoveries on their own blogs.

There is sort of a central coordinating site, Blog Carnival, and you can search over one thousand carnivals by topic....fiber arts like knitting,  organizing your life,  cats,  the law,  children's literature,  working from your home,  Southern culture,  TV and entertainment,  debt reduction, you name it.

Look out -- they're addictive!

I'm fortunate to be working (virtually) with a Canadian guy, Jon Symons at Home Turf Media, to host the Carnival of Cities.  We feature posts from blogs worldwide, about any interesting aspect of an individual city.  Some of the posts are strictly local interest and wouldn't really mean much to travelers, but others are wonderful for giving readers a feel for a prospective destination.

This week, in Carnival of Cities #5, Metro Voices, we have posts and blogs about New Orleans,  Seattle,  Shanghai and Beijing,  Yosemite, California,  Graz, Austria, smaller/more accessible museums in Florence, Italy, happenings in San Diego, yours truly Mother_Road in Paris, and even the tiny Indian Ocean country of Mauritius.

So grab some funnel cake and run away to the carnival for awhile.  You can come back home whenever you want -- I promise.

Update 26 March 2007:  Just posted Carnival of Cities #6, Worldly Views, with great posts about a surfing museum in San Diego, roller derby girls in New Orleans, even travel with kids to....Iran?  Come over and see the world.
