Stay-at-home dads get their due

I couldn't have been happier to see this Washington Post article about stay-at-home dads today.
When I'm home during the day, I see lots of dads pushing strollers and playing in the park, but I still only see ads for moms groups on the bulletin boards in town.
My husband is a work-at-home dad who has structured his work schedule so he can take care of our girls. It has worked out really well for us.
When our daughters were born in 2003, I stayed at home with them for five months on maternity leave. When my maternity leave ran out and I had to go back to work full time, my husband quit his day job so that he could take care of the girls.
Now, our girls go to nursery school in the morning so that my husband can work. He picks them up from school and gives them lunch and a nap. After nap, they'll play or go to a park until I come home and we all have dinner.
I'm on a ten month contract at my school, so I'm off now for the summer. We are all really looking forward to more time together. Having the summer to look forward to has been my major solace when I'm gripped with emotions about not being home with my family. I also feel much better knowing that my daughters are at home with their father.
Reading the Washington Post article made me think that maybe stay-at-home dads are finally getting their due. I was also tickled to see that there are groups of stay-at-home dads hanging out together.
You've come a long way, Daddy.
