Mostly unbridled enthusiasm about raising twins

I'll always remember the moment when our obstetrician said I was carrying twins. I craned my neck around and saw two little peanuts floating there on the ultrasound screen.
Strangely, I was not surprised. I remember thinking, "There they are!"
And then it was all a whirlwind of doctor's appointments, (extra for me because twin and higher order multiple pregnancies are considered high risk) baby gear, baby clothes and a multitude of preparations, all times two.
Somehow I managed to carry my babies 40 weeks and had to be induced. After a difficult labor, Dinah and Djuna both aspirated meconium and spent some time in the neonatal intensive care unit (the NICU) at our hospital. They both made a full recovery, and we moved past those first difficult days into a new whirlwind: babyhood, also times two.
Now our daughters are toddlers developing distinct personalities. But their twin bond is still essential. The whirlwind we live in has changed shape, scooping up pre-school searches, recreation center dance classes, library visits and sibling rivalry in its wake.
Blogging for my site, BeTwinned.com and now for Family.com helps me keep my thoughts together in these exhausting days. It also helps me record little moments that I'd otherwise forget, especially since I have not yet assembled baby books like my mother did so diligently for me.
After three-and-a-half years with our girls, I have more questions than answers. Take a little gulp of air with me and join me here on Mommy! Mommy! We can wonder about parenthood, twins, siblings and other imponderables together.
