Girls' night out

I found this helpful Thank You! Your vote will be tallied soon!

My husband's twin sister and her best friend recently travelled all the way from New Jersey to visit us and to see my niece march in Disneyland with her high school marching band.  (Her band was terrific!  And I managed to record the whole thing with my video camera ... on pause.  Ugh!)

My sister-in-law and her friend generously offered to watch my daughters for an evening so my husband and I could go out, and we took them up on their offer.

The day before my husband and I had our date, I was out shopping with our guests.  They saw some popcorn bowls and asked whether they should get some to (and they said this in unison, like best friends do) "have popcorn in your bed tomorrow night."

I cracked up, realizing that they had a girls' night out planned with my daughters.  The best DVD player in the house is in the master bedroom, and it was clear that there was going to be a movie-watching, popcorn-popping extravaganza.

Sure enough, when we came back from our dinner date, the girls were all upstairs getting ready to snuggle in and watch a movie.  When Dinah saw us, she said, "No, no!  Go away.  We want to be alone."  This also cracked me up.

Of course, she meant alone with her Aunties to watch the movie and have non-parent fun.

There's nothing like a girls' night out, and my daughters are so lucky to have had this special chance with Aunties who live so far away.  (And my husband and I are lucky that we got to go out for dinner.)

Thanks Auntie Dawn and Auntie Thoo (Sue)!
