Discovery! A book about a child's first dentist visit
0 |
I was chatting with a teaching colleague today, and we got to talking about our children. Somehow, the topic turned to kids and dentists, something I'm interested in because we'll soon be taking our three-year-old girls to their first visit.
My colleague said that he and his wife read the Dora the Explorer book Show Me Your Smile! A Visit to the Dentist to their daughter for a couple of weeks before they took her for her first visit. He said that helped prepare her.
Immediately, I found the book at a local bookstore and bought it on the way home.
It's not really a Dora problem-solving adventure, but instead it's a basic story about Dora going to the office, waiting, getting her teeth cleaned and x-rayed. The pictures are clear and show all the important elements of the dentist's office.
My daughters really focused on the pictures and had lots of questions. Then, after the story, they played dentist for a little while and incorporated all the new things they learned.
Since we haven't gone to the dentist together yet, I can't say whether the book will be helpful, but so far, I am glad I heard about this book. I bet it will make a difference.
