Mostly unbridled enthusiasm about raising twins
And a blessing on your little feet

Having twins means becoming comfortable with a little extra attention in public.
People look closely, they fawn, they ask, "Are they twins?"
We have friends who have triplets, and they really get extra attention in public. When people ask them if their girls are triplets, our friends sometimes say, "No, they're actually quintuplets. We just left two of them at home."
Ha! This is a perfect response. Lively, friendly, but yet pokes gentle fun at the question-asker. Everybody leaves the encounter smiling.
Mostly, even though many people ask silly questions (Are they very different? Which one is shy and which one is outgoing? Are they double-trouble?) I don't mind strangers fussing over my daughters, as long as they don't cough in their faces or something.
Sometimes, depending on the person, the attention can even be refreshing.
Once, we were scurrying through the airport, when a woman stopped us to admire the girls. We were flustered but stopped and talked with her as she asked about them, their age, whether they are identical or fraternal, and so forth.
Suddenly, she touched my daughters' little feet. She explained that her grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian and that the Cherokee bless children by touching their feet.
I was awash with gratitude for the blessing, for my family, for the way we got to stop during our hustle-bustle to appreciate our kids and the moment.
