So, over the weekend, I popped into my local Barnes & Noble to find hordes of teenage girls eagerly awaiting the midnight release of Stephenie Myers’ Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in her Twilight series. The teenage fans of the series wore shirts proclaiming their love for the vampire, Edward, and lined up to pose – prom-photo style – with the new book cover.

This ties into the Twilight fervor I witnessed at Comic-Con. Sadly, I missed Summit Entertainment’s Thursday presentation with clips from the upcoming Twilght film (releasing Dec. 12). But, vampire oh vampire, the lines were constant at Summit’s booth on the Comic-Con floor. I did get handed a set of four Twilight trading cards, with photos of the cast -- or at least Bella (a human who's immune to vampire's mind-reading), Edward (the vampire who's captured Bella's affections) and James (a tracker vampire whom I'm guessing is the bad guy based on his evil stare and the quote on the back of the card: "I will never understand the obsession some vampires seem to form with you humans." -- It's the 'you humans' that tips me off to his bad-guy stature.) I believe the official Twilight web site has more information.  (By the way, if the actor in the photo looks familiar, it's likely because he is. Robert Pattinson played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He does look a little more pale and brooding in Twilight, but he and Cedric are the same guy.)

Anyway, I'm thinking I need to read this Twilight series, since I read nearly every other teen-girl literary obsession around. (Gossip Girl, anyone? I've read all 11 of those books, the prequel, the six-book-and-counting spin-off series It Girl, and just started on the new Gossip Girl series, The Carlyles. And yes, I watch the TV series, even though it departs from the books in myriad ways.)

The latest Twilight book is already breaking records and -- with the movie on the way -- I better get cracking on my vampire reading. Maybe I'll be at the next might book release party with Edward on my shirt.

Does your teen read Twilight? What other teen/young adult novels and series do they like? Do you share any of the same books with your teen?
