The movie version of Louis Sachar's "Holes" -- an adaptation we really dug.

"Eh, it wasn't as good as the book."

How many times have you heard and/or said this?

We know the feeling. In fact, hours of conversation here revolved around whether the film version of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" did the book justice. Then, another hour was spent reveling in the fact that Warner Brothers is giving "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" two movies to get the whole story out there.

Entertainment Weekly has just released a fun rundown of 23 movies they felt didn't live up to the books that inspired them. Not much kid fare is on the list but this week's DVD release, "The Golden Compass," makes an appearance, as does the film adaptations of Dr. Suess' "The Cat in the Hat" (what rhymes with "blech")

What kids' books turned movies were disappointments for your family? What movies did a better job than their book counterparts?
