The Case of the Missing Potter Movie

Hey, Hermione, it says here they're going to show our sixth movie next summer. Wish I wasn't wearing this wool sweater. (Photo Courtesy of Warner Brothers Pictures)

Sigh, I guess I have to wait a little longer for my next shot of Harry Potter magic.

If you haven't heard, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, one of this fall's hottest family releases, now won't come out on its scheduled November 21 release date.

Warner Brothers has moved the movie to next summer, so now -- after seeing the beyond-awesome trailer (I'll try to post it later) -- I have to wait.

Don't worry: No one is saying the movie got pushed due to a quality issue. (Come on: I, for one, have never met a Harry Potter movie I didn't like, even if I enjoy some more than others.) It's just that -- after the constant stream of great movies this summer (see our movies page for some recommendations) -- next summer is looking pretty thin for exciting stuff. Honestly, I know the movie calendar back and forth and can barely name one release from next summer than I'm really keyed up for.

With Harry's November 21 date free, two movies swooped in to claim the coveted day before Thanksgiving spot: Disney's Bolt (which I saw footage from at Comic-Con) -- which originally was slated for a Nov. 26 release -- and the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's teen vampire romance, Twilight -- originally scheduled to hit theaters Dec. 12.

Sounds like I'll be busy this Thanksgiving weekend. (And, if I have to wait for Harry, I'll need to keep my movie-going self occupied...)

Does your family usually see more movies in the summer or around the holiday season? What do you look for in a Thanksgiving weekend flick?
