Phineas and Ferb hit DVD this week! -- Photo Courtesy of Disney Channel

I have to say, it's quite delicious to be able to buy or rent a whole season of a favorite television show and watch it at my own pace: No commercials. I can rewind to see something again and I can watch the entire season in a few nights or one day or one month -- none of that waiting between episodes. (I suppose the same thing is possible with a DVR, but you don't get the pretty, pretty boxes.)

This week's big DVD releases are all from the small screen. Here's what to look for for your family this week:

Phineas & Ferb -- This cartoon -- recently nominated for two Emmys (for best song lyrics and best opening theme music) --  is genuinely fun to watch, no matter your age. About two brothers, Phineas and Ferb, who have a goal of making every day extra-fun, the comic antics of the duo make the five episodes on this disc worth watching again and again. (Each episode is 22 minutes, and divided into two 11-minute segments, so every installment is a nice nugget of brightly colored fun.)

Wizards of Waverly Place
-- The four-episode disc of this magical series is a nice bit of Wizardry 101, and a good way to introduce tweens to this series, sort of a more everyday-people version of Harry Potter. Three supernaturally powered siblings -- one of them up-and-comer Selena Gomez -- get up to magic and mischief and learn lessons in this upbeat series.

Tiny Toons Adventures Volume 1
-- Some parents might remember watching this goofily delightful 'toon as kids or teens. In it, the next generation of Looney Toons attend Acme Academy, where they're taught by the greats, likes Bugs, Daffy and other memorable greats. The show has appeal for cartoon lovers of any age, and the 35 extra-funny episodes are enough to make you long for the good ol' days of watching a few cartoons after school. In my case, the Tiny Toons release also has me thinking of other cartoon kids I can't wait to hit DVD -- The Muppet Babies. Hopefully, it won't be long now!

What are you watching this week?
