Demi Lovato will star in Sonny with a Chance, a new show premiering on the Disney Channel next year. (Photo courtesy of Disney Channel)

Just got a cool press release that Demi Lovato, one of the stars of Camp Rock, just started shooting a new show, Sonny with a Chance, about a girl who stars in a sketch comedy show for kids.

According to the release:

Production has begun in Burbank on Disney Channel's Sonny with a Chance, an original comedy series for kids and families about a talented Midwestern girl who gets the chance she's been dreaming of when she's cast in a popular sketch comedy series for kids and tweens, So Random. The series will depict the goings-on with Sonny, her family and new friends in Los Angeles and at the studio, behind the scenes of So Random. It will feature a show-within-a-show, with fully produced comedy sketches.

The sketch-show-within-a-comedy-TV-show is working well for 30 Rock, an adult show with a similar premise. Wonder if they can get Tina Fey to make a cameo to teach the young stars the do's and don'ts of sketch comedy. I do have one bit of fun casting news: Nancy McKeon, who played Jo on The Facts of Life, will play Sonny's mom.

Just an FYI: The show was previously called Welcome to Mollywood which you may have read about before. It will hit the Disney Channel in January 2009.

Do you think Demi Lovato will achieve the same level of stardom as Miley Cyrus?
