Better Late Than Never -- Must-Rent DVDs of the Last Few Weeks
2 |
Son of Rambow came out on DVD on August 26. Check it out for your next family night.
Yes, I'm a little behind on must-rent DVDs, but think of it this way: The list I give you today should make for weeks of rentals.
Here are some of the recent releases I'm deeming worthy of a family movie night:
A few from August:
The American Mall -- This one slipped through the cracks in early August. From the producers of High School Musical, the film is about Ally, whose mom owns a record shop that's the heart and soul of the mall. Her love interest is a janitor who works at the mall to fund his rock star dreams.
Son of Rambow -- I talked about this one before, and our Family.com review will be up shortly. If you want a movie where kids are truly kids, check out this sleeper hit of the summer
The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning -- Wondering how Ariel met Flounder and Sebastian? Check out this prequel to find out. Our Family.com reviewer Lisa Oppenheimer loved Benjamin the manatee, and a whole lot more.
The Nightmare Before Christmas: Collector's Edition -- Sure, your family's probably seen this one before, but isn't it high time to see it again?
Last Week's Releases (September 9)
Baby Mama -- Comedi-moms Tina Fey and Amy Poehler star in this non-drama mama laugh-fest. (Look for our review in a few days.)
Forbidden Kingdom -- Jet Li and Jackie Chan? Sounds like a match made in martial arts heaven. Definitely worth a look, especially for kids get a kick out of
kung fu flicks.
Today's Releases (September 16)
Another Cinderella Story -- The musical romance stars Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place) -- perfect for the Disney Channel obsessed.
Beetlejuice (20th Anniversary Edition) -- Say his name three times, and prepare for the ghost with the most. An '80s classic that appears on our list of Spine-Tingling Halloween Movies.
Made of Honor -- A romcom for moms (and possibly teen daughters) that stars Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan.
Pushing Daisies: Season 1 -- Definitely a show for teens and up, this series' colorful, whimsical look melds perfectly with colorful, whimsical characters. If you don't know the basic premise: Ned can bring the dead back to life with a touch, and he uses that power to solve murder mysteries.
Speed Racer -- Okay, it didn't really cruise to the top of theaters this summer. Fast cars, flashy colors, and the promise of entertainment for the whole family? Sounds like a primo rental to me.
What's on your movie list for family night?
