The Nikon D50: I take pictures every day

Nikon D50 Self Portrait

For years my digital camera was the bane of my existence.  Sure, it worked fine when my son was an infant and its sole purpose was to capture image after image of him, uh, staying in one place.  But once he started up with his adorable off-kilter crab crawl, it was a whole new ballgame.  By the time he was walking, I could fill the entire memory card and not get a single shot of him that wasn't a complete blur.

Eventually we got fed up and started saving for a digital SLR.  We chose the cheapest one on the market at the time: the bewitching Nikon D50.  Unlike a digital point-and-shoot, you don't use the screen on an SLR to frame your pictures, you look directly through the lens.  The result takes your breath away - there is zero delay.  When you click the shutter, it takes a picture.  As fast you're reading this is how fast I can take pictures: click, click, click.  I can finally capture the photo I actually want, not the photo I wanted two seconds ago.

Even though the Nikon D50 remains one of the most basic digital SLR cameras out there, it still has more features than I can even figure out.  I am a complete novice when it comes to photography, but even I can take amazing pictures with this camera.  The other day I forgot to lock the car and when I realized my mistake, my first thought was not for the credit cards and cash I'd left in the diaper bag, it was, I hope no one stole my camera!  It's my most prized material possession.  I adore it.

My two cents?  Definitely worth the money.
