Today at the pumpkin patch (in which I am NOT thinking about the to do list)
Today I was so busy with the kids that I got literally ZERO items crossed off my list. If anything, I just added more (call the painter, arrange for a lockbox to be put on the front door, call the guy at the construction company to let him know what color our grout is, get the oil changed in my car, etc.).
We spent the entire day out romping around in the rain and having a blast, though, so I'm not too worried about the list. This morning was Alex's first-ever school field trip, in which his preschool headed into Portland to a beloved pumpkin patch famous for its 50-acre corn maze. Of course, the kids didn't go through that maze, but they enjoyed the hay bale pyramid and the smaller, kid-friendly maze. We also got to take a tractor-pulled hay ride and pick out pumpkins in the mud. It didn't even start to rain until just as we were leaving, so overall it was a complete success.
Genoa zonked out in the car on the way back and we had just enough time at home for her to finish her nap while I downloaded the pictures from my camera before we headed back out to meet up with some friends and attend the Boo Bash downtown (which is when they close off the streets and the local businesses hand out candy in the afternoon). This was good timing, too, because we got a good trial run for the Halloween costumes. Alex is going as a fireman and I bought Genoa a Supergirl outfit. This is probably my last year to choose her costume myself and I know she'll love getting to match her brother when he pulls out his Superman costume and flies around the house. Both costumes seem to work just fine, except that Alex won't wear the fire chief hat because it, "sticks to [his] curls!"
Of course, this afternoon it was rainy and cold and even windy too, so that part was not ideal. The funny thing was that if we'd gotten bad weather like that in California, the streets would've been completely empty. No one would've shown up. But here? The streets were packed with kids and rain boots and umbrellas. Just like everybody told me, people here basically ignore the weather and do what they want to do anyway. I think that's a great attitude and it's exactly how I seem to be approaching that ever-growing to do list.
