Because money doesn't grow on trees
Pretty, pretty capitalism

I know I might garner a few eye rolls when I say this, but I LOVE capitalism. I love the free market and the invisible hand and the laws of supply and demand. Few people share my undying enthusiasm for all things Adam Smith. My all-time favorite college courses were Macroeconomics and Microeconomics (followed closely by Accounting 1A and 1B. I am a Super Mega Money Geek.)
These days it seems harder and harder to really see the capitalistic underpinnings of our free economy. Most of us make a salary; we buy things online or at the store (where ever it's cheapest) and we don't feel like we have any control over prices. I have a feeling that explaining the various complications of the modern economy to my children is going to be a challenge, especially in an increasingly cash-less world.
However, nothing seems to illustrate supply and demand quite as easily as selling a car on the Internet. Thanks to the magical powers of Craig's List, now, instead of having a beautiful 2001 VW Jetta, we have that pile of cash up there and instead of that pile of cash up there, Jose has a lovely new car for his wife and two children. We both felt that the thing we were getting was worth more than the thing we already had. And voila! Capitalism in its most basic form. I love it.
