I used to be one of those closeted TV watchers, the kind of person who felt ashamed of the sheer number of hours I spent enjoying my favorite shows. Now I feel very much the opposite way: I love TV. It's my main source of entertainment and something my husband and I get to enjoy together after the kids go to bed. Sure, I'm addicted to certain shows, but we've had a DVR for years now and that means we get to take our time and watch our recorded programs when it's convenient for us. My life doesn't revolve around making sure I'm home for a certain show and I thank the good people at Tivo for making it so.
Here's what I'm watching these days:
Desperate Housewives - always completely over-the-top, but we can't turn away. (Dave watches this one with me).
Samantha Who? - I caught the pilot of this and was pretty surprised that I liked it. Too bad I doubt it will last for more than a few weeks.
Pushing Daisies - I caught one episode and found it intriging, if nothing else. I've added it to my list.
Private Practice - I thought for sure I was going to love this show since it's a Grey's Anatomy spin-off, but so far, I'm unimpressed. Of course that doesn't mean I'm going to stop watching it any time soon, I just wish it was a bit more engaging.
My Name is Earl - We watch this show mainly because there's isn't much else on that interests us during that timeslot. It's a good show, but it bothers both Dave and I because it could be SO MUCH funnier if they weren't so caught up in the morals of the stories. (We're big Seinfeld fans too).
30 Rock - This is perhaps the only show that causes both Dave and I to laugh out loud. We LOVE it. The writing is quirky and hilarious and the characters are excellent.
The Office - This is probably our favorite show. It's funny and awkward and you end up really caring about the characters. We originally watched the entire British series and LOVED it, so we were stoked when the American TV series came out.
Grey's Anatomy - For some reason Dave calls this show "St. Elmo." Was there a sappy chick-show in the 1980's named that? Because he HATES this show and makes fun of me every time he catches me watching it. Part of me sees his point; it IS a girly show, but I love it and no amount of mockery is going to keep me from watching it.
ER - At this point, I mainly watch ER because I'm in it to win it. I've been watching it since I was a TEENAGER and god help me if I'm going to stop watching it now. I think ER has its good and bad seasons, but I've always loved the pace and feel of it. No matter what the episode is about, it always seems to end before I want it to.
Men in Trees - I'm giving this show another season. It's trite and overly scripted, but I want to see what happens with all the love stories, what can I say?
There are also a whole plethora of shows that aren't running right now that I love like American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, Lost, The Shield, Battlestar Galactica, etc. I'm also addicted to several HBO series like Tell Me You Love Me, Big Love, The Wire, John From Cincinatti and Rome.
