Because money doesn't grow on trees
Clothes shopping and spending

An open letter to the fashion industry:
I AM NOT PREGNANT!
Sincerely,
Concerned shopper
And I thought skinny jeans were insane! Seriously, though, what is with all the baby doll tops with the ties that go around the back? The trapeze dresses? The fluffy shapeless shirts? I went to Kohl's yesterday, tried on approximately 43 different shirts and came home with ONE. That is all.
How much do you spend on clothes? Because I realized yesterday that I could not be any cheaper about it. There was a time when I used to hit up Macy's and buy things made from silk, but those days (and the accompanying credit card debt) are LONG behind me. Now I'm strictly a $20-or-less girl. I just can't bring myself to spend money on clothes. Occasionally I'll splurge and buy myself a $40 jacket, but that is very rare.
For my kids, I generally maintain a $5-$10 limit, depending on the item. Yesterday I found a few two-for-$10 deals for Genoa's summer clothes, but I did end up buying Alex a $23 pair of chinos for an upcoming professional photo shoot that my mother is giving us. I just can't bring myself to spend money on clothes that I know are going to get washed about a zillion times, usually in hot water to get out the grime, and then get outgrown in less than six months. We didn't even buy Easter outfits this year!
Over the next few days, I'll be shopping for some clothes for our trip to California next week, so I'll try to come back and post about what I buy and how much I spend. I think I can outfit us for Spring/Summer for well under $200. We'll see!
Then, the week after I get back, I'm attending a FORMAL gala event with Dave. Obviously, I haven't worn a prom dress since, well, THE PROM, so I have no idea what I'm going to do. I've actually started to research RENTING a dress since I refuse to spend money on something I'll only wear once, but I also don't want to look cheap. Any suggestions?
