Because money doesn't grow on trees
I know I was already grateful for
Genoa's little voice, but over the past two
days, she's started saying "I LOVE YOU" on command. It's the
most adorable thing in the world and it's pretty much the only
thing getting us through the fact that her canine teeth are all
coming in right now and making her EVIL. So today, I'm grateful
for those three little words.

This is a day late, but am I ever grateful for FALL. In
California, it's always been my favorite season of the year and
I'm thrilled to report that it's no different in Washington. A
couple days ago we spent the afternoon raking leaves and then
jumping in them. And then raking them again. And then jumping
in them again. The kids loved it and I got some great pictures
of them enjoying the backyard. This is the stuff we…

All of sudden, Genoa's vocabulary seems to be exploding.
I'm pretty sure this happens to most babies at her age, almost a
year and a half, but it's the cutest thing in the world. Genoa
LOVES animals and this morning she chased the dog up and down the
stairs about five times in a row shouting, "HAAA-WEEE!" over and

When I picked Alex up from school on Friday, one of his
teachers stopped me to tell me how much she misses him after
lunch. He's one of the few kids in his class who gets picked up
at 1:00, instead of at the traditional Montessori pick-up time of
3:00. It made my day that she went out her way to tell me that
she enjoys being with my kid.

Yesterday Dave and I spent most of the afternoon, including
100% of the kids' precious nap time, hanging curtains in our
family room. From the outset of the project, Dave was skeptical
that the hardware would hold up my extremely heavy IKEA curtains,
but I nagged him into helping me hang them anyway.
Two hours later, the curtains were pulling off from the wall.

I know yesterday was all about the house and I promise not
to spend the entire month going through it room by room for
gratitude material, but today I am specifically happy for my
kitchen. I spent most of the morning cooking up a storm and it
made me happy. Truly ridiculously happy. I have my cooking mojo
back!
