On paying more attention to my kids

Posted February 26, 2008
Last night I went to bed feeling like a rotten mother. I had stayed up late reading some blog posts about home-schooling (which I've never had the energy to even CONSIDER) and then another one from a close friend about being a stay-at-home mother and how important our jobs are. Ideas started swirling around in my head and I realized that I had spent the entire day attempting to avoid my children so I could focus on my… Read More

She already loves the bad boys

Genoa's new favorite show is tragically the odd and somewhat baffling Icelandic hit Lazy Town. Have you ever seen this show? It's about pink-haired (and admittedly ADORABLE) girl named Stephanie who comes to town to live with her uncle, who is a puppet, where she meets several other kids, all puppets. There's a bad guy named Rotten Robbie who dreams of returning the town to its former glory of gluttony and a good guy named Sportacus who drops… Read More

This mom has let herself go...

Last night, lying in bed snuggled up back-to-back with my 21-month-old daughter, it hit me that I haven't been taking very good care of myself lately. I don't watch what I eat. I rarely ingest vegetables. I haven't exercised regularly (or, you know, at all) since I found out I was pregnant with my first child over five years ago. I don't even think I managed to schedule a pap smear in between my two pregnancies. Worst of all, though,… Read More

What once was lost now is found

It's been over five years since I had gastric bypass surgery and lost over a hundred pounds. Many things about my body have changed, none of which was more surprising than the fact that I dropped about three ring sizes in as many months. Shortly after my surgery, I could fling my wedding rings right off my fingers with just a slight of hand. It was not good, so I put away my rings with the idea in mind that… Read More

Today the Bush Administration announced a plan to help bail out homeowners who are currently at risk for foreclosure. The article caught my eye both because I'm a financial planner AND because I'm in the process of refinancing our mortgage to help make it more affordable for us. We are currently paying almost 50% more in interest on our second mortgage than was originally quoted to us because the market on subprime mortgages had a major downturn the week we purchased our house. We've been slugging along… Read More

Yesterday Genoa's new potty arrived from Target via UPS and now we're headlong into potty training. It's happening much sooner and going much better than I expected it to, but I'm quickly remembering that not everything about giving up diapers is sunshine and roses.

THE GOOD
1. Not buying diapers anymore! Untold financial benefits!
2. No more changing poopy diapers while she kicks and screams.
3. Feeling proud of my kid is a big perk.
4. Successful potty… Read More
