Spring Fling.

Apparently writing about spring is the best way to chase it away... Yep, it's 21 degrees outside and I can hear the spinning of tires in what looks to be about two inches of ick. And by ick, I mean ice and snow. Snow! In March! It truly is the craziest of months.
With any luck, it will warm up somewhat today. It is, after all, St. Patrick's Day, and in Philadelphia, that means a parade. While the kids and I will not be venturing out in the ick to check it out, I do have exciting St. Patrick's Day potluck plans. Potluck is the way to throw a party for the budget and time conscious of parents. You don't have to cook or plan everything yourself. Just choose a theme (like, say, St. Patrick's Day), coordinate guests and food "category" (meaning entree, side, dessert, salad, etc - no need to be specific, the surprise is part of the fun) and voila, instant party! The other best part? You are generally not stuck with leftovers or extra dishes... Insist that your guests take everything they brought home - and then some! Easy entertaining.
I'm not hosting this particular potluck (good for me!) and my contribution is some variation on what Tyler Florence promises to be "The Ultimate Potato Gratin." In an effort to encourage the kids to eat it, I will not dye it green, though I love that idea. Wish me luck!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
