Gimme a Break!

Really, I mean an actual break. Dare I even say it aloud? I want a vacation.
Owning your own business has a lot of rewards. But it also has a lot of challenges. One of the biggest challenges is finding the time to take a vacation - and then actually doing it.
And now, of course, Chris and I have one more challenge - well, three more challenges to be exact. And their names are Katie, Amy and Charlie.
Years ago, planning a vacation was a breeze. We relied on Amtrak and various airline e-savers. It was not unusual for me to see a deal and book a flight to Germany or jump a train to New York City at the last minute. I loved the spontaneity, it added excitement to the trip. And last minute usually equaled dirt cheap.
Spontaneity isn't as easy as it used to be. Adding three small children to the mix - with all of their schedules and obligations - in addition to an already overbooked professional life has meant that vacations just don't happen as often as they used to. My last vacation? A whole year ago. And that includes mini-breaks. We haven't really had one that wasn't work-related. That makes for a cranky momma.
So this week, with tax season finally winding down, I'm going to try and plan a vacation. I figure I'll stop by Mother Road's blog and check out her tips to help me along... And I'll scour the web looking for deals. Pop back and see how it's going. If you have any suggestions, definitely chime in. I'd love to hear what works for other families!
