I found this helpful Thank You! Your vote will be tallied soon!

My wife and I are in the talking stages of what to do for the next kid's birthday party: our daughter ChiChi LaRue (I'm not sure why, but that's become our nickname for her this week) turns two next month.

Last year, we celebrated with a Garden Party theme with 40 guests. It was a Saturday brunch with egg casserole, a tropical fruit platter, bagels and shmears, and I constructed a literal, edible rosebush with rose-shaped cakelets surrounded by paper leaves. (A little background: by our standards, this was a pared down affair; we had 90 here for Rocco's 4th birthday "Action Hero" party).

While I love the idea of riffing on ChiChi LaRue's current loves (shoes and "The Little Mermaid," for starters), and inviting dozens, I feel a tug. Maybe this year -- before we invite dozens more with her accumulating friends -- we go a simpler route. Have just the four of us here at home... maybe with her godparents... and, O.K., maybe another few couples that have kids her age... and why not have a few couples who are are friends and have kids that are Rocco's friends... and then we should see if both sets of our parents will come out of town again... and...

I think four just became 40 again... if we're lucky.
