A Tale of Two Grocery Stores

I admit it: I love grocery shopping. Gathering a list, scouring the aisles, finding an item by memory or without having to ask… it's like a board game come to life for me. Still, I also know that the routine can become mundane, so mixing it up has become it's own game for me. It's just that -- I know from experience that -- stores all have their idiosyncrasies. Sure many of them carry the same brands, but almost all of them carry their own, too. Or one may have a particularly strong Hispanic foods aisle. Another may have better organic vegetables. One may have great frozen salmon burgers; another might have fresher tiger shrimp. One might have the peanut butter your kids like in bulk; the other might have pouches of amazing blanched almonds.

I've also learned that the exposure to stores' different milieus also gives me ripe, ever-ready inspiration for constantly-changing menus.

Because let's face it: nothing takes down an appetite like hearing, "We're having that again?"
